videoperformance

The video performance, "Sleep Until You Never," reflects the constant redefinition of self that the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic imposed on us. We were forced to redefine ourselves by facing who we are.

The starting point for this work was a reflection on Clarice Lispector's book, The Hour of the Star, in dialogue with the isolation I was experiencing. This dialogue led me to three guiding prompts:

These prompts originated from personal experiences: observing a void for hours on end; imagining life in an aquarium, where leaving my habitat would cause me to suffocate; and facing the mirror, an activity often overlooked, if not actively avoided.

By combining these prompts with the passive state of being imposed by quarantine—constantly waiting for an unknown event—I sought to translate these instructions into objects (shown in the opening frames) and transform them into actions, or performances, which are presented in a non-linear flow.
